Kitty Cat Fun

Image result for a kindle of kittens
Cat is the town cat and is content with her life of roaming the streets and exploring the dustbins, but things change when she has her kindle of kittens. She decides that street life is not for her little ones,  determined to find them good homes she sets out to select human families for them, based on her research of their dustbins.
After listening this this delightful story, Misbah Aunty helped the Book Worms to make their own paper kittens to take home. Everyone helped with rolling up newspapers and the litle ones enjoyed ripping up the paper into shreds too, some managed to help with gluing them together as well. Eventually it was the moms completing the work; that's team work for you!

Going Exploring with Edward

Edward wants to be an explorer, discover new creatures and name them himself. He prepared himself with his net, notebook and backpack and off he went on an adventure. As Edward explored his garden, he heard numerous sounds, which  the Book Worms easily guessed the source of, but much to their surprise, Edward couldn't and he gave each of them a mysterious name.

Boats Afloat

Oh dear, Captain Duck is here! Excitable and uninvited, Captain Duck takes over his friends' boating expedition, leaving behind the Goat, the host of the the trip, as well as a much needed can of petrol.

Following the funny adventures of Jez Alborough's duck, the children tried to float and race their various "boats" (a cup, a plastic ball, a plastic zip lock bag to name a few) though a small "river", by blowing at them through straws. It wasn't easy providing their own wind power, but even the little ones did not give up till they had crossed the finish line!

Fall Colours

As the weather in Karachi gets cooler, thoughts and talk about the beautiful fall colours enjoyed by friends outside our country are shared. Today the Book Worms Book Clubbers enjoyed making their own fall coloured leaves to take home. Cut out on foam sheets, the children painted them orange, green, red, brown and yellow: the lovely colours of Autumn leaves.

Children and mothers alike, giggled as they followed the story of big sister Rosie bunny guiding her little brother Max on how nest to clean up his bedroom. "A place for everything and everything in its place," goes the saying, and as Rosie organizes and tidies up, Max finds one single place to save all his valuables from her; his pocket!

Following the giggle-worthy story, the children were taught to make a paper box to keep their small valuables. Mash'Allah, they found it quick and easy and some of them went home made them for their their parents too.

You can make one too, just follow the link

Safari park!

Making use of the beautiful spring-time weather, bookworms decided to have some fun in Safari park. The weather was beautiful - in fact, just perfect for a park outing. Children enjoyed playground, while mothers were discussing some organizational matters related to the book club. We did have a couple new homeschooling families join us - Alhamdulillah, the community is growing!

After common snack time, some families left for home, while others continued to enjoy the attractions of Safari park.

The manners of dinosaurs and paper weaving

As usual, bookworms were happy to come together for another book club. This week, the smaller bookworms enjoyed two books about dinosaurs. Well, not really about dinosaurs themselves but about dinosaurs who were behaving like small children. :)

We read "How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon?" and "How Do Dinosaurs Eat their Food?" by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.

Starting out with the food habits of dinosaurs, children smiled through the numerous bad habits the dinosaurs in the book had - they burped, they threw cereal from the table, they put beans up their noses, spit out their broccoli half-chewed and blew bubbles in their milk. But it turned out that all the bad habits were just jokes - the real dinosaurs sat neatly at the table, said "please" and "thank you", finished food on their plates and asked for more, if they were still hungry. Bookworms did discuss also that food is a blessing that Allah gives us, therefore, we should always have good manners of eating, say our Duas before and after the meal and thank Allah for the food He gives us.

In the second book, the dinosaurs were sick with flu. And once again the first part of the book was full of funny bad habits dinosaurs had - throwing dirty tissues all over the floor, spitting out their medicines, running away and hiding when in doctor's office and not keeping their blankets on, when in bed. In the second part of the book, we learned that actually the dinosaurs were very patient when they were sick - they listened to the advice of doctors (because doctors know best), took their medicines nicely, stayed in bed and drank lots of juice.

After reading, small bookworms had activity - making a small weaved carpet of colourful strips of paper. Umm Uzair guided them through step by step, until everybody had a nice colourful carpet to take home.

Big girls had a bit more challenging paper weaving activity - they were making small woven pouches that were opening up.
